Why comparison sites are not always as they seem

Comparison sites can be really useful for checking insurance or supermarkets; maybe even if you’re looking for cheaper energy bills. However, when your boiler breaks down - boiler comparison sites are far from useful. They cause you added stress that you really don’t need at this time, especially when important home decisions have to be made.

If you’re considering using comparison sites such as Boiler Guide or The Heating Hub to purchase your new boiler, then this is the guide for you. We’ll explain the downsides of using these middle person companies and why BOXT are the perfect boiler people for you.

Step after step after…

If you use Boiler Guide, there are a number of hoops to jump through before an installation date is decided. Once you’ve gone through their journey, they have one of their salespeople contact you. This is only to check that your details provided are real, catching you in their web. It’s these inconsiderate tactics that have made people so suspicious of boiler companies, and it’s something BOXT have managed to put an end to. Reliable, trustworthy, and simple, we’re the heating people that always put you first.

When Boiler Guide have given you the call; checked your details are legitimate - they then sell your details to other heating companies who contact you but are not directly working for that company. Boiler Guide are pretty much middle people - once they’ve got their sale they pass the baton on to someone else. That means your personal details being sent around to three or even more random boiler companies - who knows what they’ll do with your information?

Run by salespeople.

Not at any point before the purchase do you discuss anything technical with an engineer. Instead, you’re basically talking to salespeople or marketers who know how to sell a product and make a convincing argument, but have no expertise on heating installation.

Whereas when you choose BOXT, we have a team of experienced engineers ready to help you with any problems you may have. By simply going on to our LiveChat, you’ll be able to talk directly to our installers who know exactly what they’re talking about. Or if you’d prefer why not give them a call on: 0800 193 7777.

With a purchase as big as a boiler or air conditioning system, it’s crucial that you get things right, so check out our guide on telltale signs of cowboy contractors: who should you trust?

Who are these engineers the comparison sites find?

Another reason why these comparison sites are not to be trusted is that you don’t know anything about the engineers that are being hired. Many customers find this unnerving, especially as you’re allowing a stranger into your home.

Whereas with BOXT, you know your engineer before you’ve even paid. At the checkout, you’ll see a short bio of your own personal engineer explaining a bit about themselves - and you’ll even know what their favourite biscuit is. They’re a friendly bunch, too. On the day of your installation, our Gas Safe registered engineers arrive on time, ready to help you in any way they can.

The quote you receive is never fixed.

When it comes to the price, Boiler Guide don’t make your life easy. You go through all of these unnecessary steps to receive your quote for your boiler. Logically, you’d expect that the price you receive is the price you pay. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that with these kinds of companies. The comparison sites get in touch with other boiler companies to send an installer to survey your home, which means additional costs and charges - the price snowballs out of control.

BOXT works very differently. We like to keep everything nice and simple from the get-go. All you need to do is answer a few short questions and we find you the boilers that are best suited to your home. As you get to the checkout, the price you see is fixed with everything you need. That includes: the fitting of the boiler, pipework, flue, and system flush.
