Your EV charger questions, answered

Typically, an EV charging point with installation will cost between £1,000 and £2,000. The amount you pay will vary depending on the make and model of your electric vehicle as well as the existing electrical infrastructure at your home.

To help UK homeowners cover the cost of getting a home EV charger installed, the Government introduced their EV charge point grant. This provides funding for up to 75% of the cost of installing electric vehicle charge points at domestic properties in the UK. Read more about the grant here.

Even though this might seem like a lot, electric vehicle drivers with charging points installed at their homes or places of work tend to spend far less (and enjoy far greater flexibility) than those who rely on public charging stations.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, as the best EV charger for you will depend on your individual circumstances and preferences. Tethered chargers do tend to be more expensive than untethered ones, but the price difference may not be too great once you factor in the price of buying a cable separately.
